DUZCE BUILDING OF CHAMBER OF COMMERCE – FIRST PRIZE AWARD

The Düzce Chamber of Industry and Commerce Service Building was designed as a prestigious and contemporary administrative structure contributing to the city’s industrial identity that has developed through its post-earthquake reconstruction process. The project was awarded the 1st Prize in the national architectural competition.

Although Düzce is a medium-sized city, it hosts two organized industrial zones, which play a crucial role in its production infrastructure. Following the 1999 earthquake, the rapid revival of industry became a key component of the city’s economic, social, and commercial dynamics. Within this context, the building was conceived as an exemplary public structure that integrates with the city’s industrial identity, while being ecologically and aesthetically refined.

The project site is located at the intersection of İstanbul Avenue and Nezih Tütüncüoğlu Boulevard, an important junction that forms part of the main urban axis and entrance gateway to Düzce.

At the heart of the design lies the interior courtyard–atrium void, which allows maximum natural light into the building while creating a vertical spatial continuity and richness. This internal space is surrounded by the foyer, entrance hall, member social area, and staff facilities, establishing visual and physical coherence across floors.

The interior organization was developed to achieve a balanced relationship between vertical and horizontal circulation, minimize movement areas, and optimize controlled use of natural daylight.

Ultimately, the project stands as a public building that represents Düzce’s industrial identity, planned with environmental sensitivity, and distinguished by its functional and aesthetic strength, adding a new architectural value to the city.
